Football

Football is one of the most beautiful games in the world. The rules are simple: Put the ball in the back of the net. The game goes on for ninety minutes plus extra time. If the game in drew at the ninety-minute the go added time. They play 15-minute halves and if the score is still drawn it goes onto penalty shoot-out.

All you need to play football is a ball and something to mark the goals. To start a match of football a player has to go into the middle of the pitch, wait for the ref to blow the whistle, and pass it back to one of your teammates. The game is then started. The 60-100 meter field has 11 players on each side. They all have set positions. The main positions are strikers, midfielders, defenders, and a goalkeeper.

There are many rules in football. Such as if you foul someone you get a free-kick where you got fouled. However, if the opponent has fouled you in the penalty box it is a penalty. The player gets a free shot 9 meters away from the goal with no defence
in the way. Offsides are another crucial rule in Football. The attack always has to be behind the last defender. If the attackers are in front of the last defenders it is called offside. The defenders get a free-kick.

Football coaches coordinate and instructs the football players. The coaches train to make game plans and tactics. The coaches will pick the formations of the team and the positions. In a professional league If the team loses over and over again, they can get fired. Coaching is very important.

In conclusion, Football is one of the most popular sports around the world and should be played a lot more.

The Changes in our ocean

The changes in our ocean are not changes, their problems that we need to change.

Every day millions of people rely on fish for food and good nutrition. When people take too much fish out of the ocean it creates problems. Lot’s of species go extinct from overfishing. The population is too small so they cannot breed which sadly leads to extinction. Huge big fishing trailers Scrape at the ocean floor getting hundreds and hundreds of fish to sell at huge fishing markets. When this happens it wrecks the coral reefs and ocean floor.

Even though plastic has done great things for us it has also done bad. We have made lots of inventions with plastic but it is very harmful to marine life. Up to 8 million bits of plastic go into the ocean every day.  88% of the sea surface is plastic which out of every 3 fish 1 of them is contained with plastic. Fish think plastic is food so they eat it. The plastic makes them feel full but they are not and then they starve to death.

As the years pass our globe is getting hotter. This is because of us. The pollution from factories and cars goes up into the air and makes holes in our ozone layer. The ozone layer is like a thin blanket that protects us from the sun. When the pollution makes holes through the ozone layer it makes it hotter. The ice caps start to melt which makes the sea rise. Many marine life species can’t live because the temperature of the water is too hot. This is a global problem that we need to fix.

We have to remember that they were here first and were just mucking up their world. To help stop these problems we need to not overfish, don’t use plastic, and try not to make as much pollution. If we can do this It will change the ocean back to how it was, when it was healthy.

How a political party wins an election in NZ

In an election, every voter gets two votes. Parties compete to win as many electoral votes and party votes as they can. To get any seats in parliament, a party needs to win at least 5% of the party vote or win an electorate seat.

Your electorate vote goes to the person you most want to represent the area you live in. Each party chooses people to stand in the election. The person with the most votes is called an MP. Normally the person that the parties choose to stand on the behalf of their party.

There are currently 5 political parties in parliament. These are the Act Party, Green Party, Labour Party, National Party and the New Zealand First Party.

Voting places close at 7.00 pm on election day. Each voting place counts the votes there. The process of counting the votes by hand begins with an early start from 9:00 am. From 7.00 pm, results go to a central office in Wellington, for the announcement as they arrive. A person needs to ensure no voter has voted more than once. Special overseas votes are also included. People count the votes which usually takes about two weeks. The results of the election become official when confirmed by the Chief Electoral Officer.

The two major parties that have dominated the government are labour and national. This is because they have a lot more people and better ideas that will benefit the country. However, not everyone agrees with the ideas. That's why parties are normally made up of people that have a similar idea of how to make our country a better place.

Like the last election, for example, New Zealand First joined up with Labour and the Greens. This is called a coalition. So they can join the number of seats they have in parliament. The leaders from the three coalition partners parties negotiate to determine who will become either Prime Minister or Deputy Prime Minister

*Why flooding causes destruction*

A flood happens when water overflows or soaks normally dry land. Generally, floods take hours or even days to develop, giving people time to prepare or evacuate. But Sometimes, floods develop quickly and with no warning.

A Flood can develop in many ways. The most common is when rivers overflow the dams, heavy rain, a broken dam or a huge ice melt. Coastal flooding can also happen when it is high tide or a tsunami. Did you know that floods are the second-best widespread in the world besides the wildfires!!!!!

When floods happen the ocean moves inland. Floods have enormous power. Some structures cannot withstand the force of the water causing them to collapse. Most people are left without any drinking water or power.

When the flood has gone the ground is covered in mud and silt. This is very beneficial for the farmers because It has lots of nutrients in it. But when the flood has receded it can cause just as much damage. Sharp debris, fuel and sewage are very harmful to the people. In America, floods cause 100 people to die and cause seven point five billion billion dollars worth of damage.

Some Countries are building stronger stabilised buildings when flooding happens to prevent damage.

The damage caused by wildfires

A wildfire is deadly, destroying homes, wildlife and contaminates the air with the pollution that can harm people.  Wildfires are very dangerous.

The impact that fires have on communities is huge. After the fire, some people are left with nothing but only the clothes on their back. Their home was swallowed by the fire. Luckily they get their homes rebuilt.

480 million wildlife were injured or killed in the Australian bush fires in 2019. Wildfire causes wildlife to move, avoiding flames and searching for new habitat. This can cause animals to wander into human-populated areas and come into contact with humans they would normally avoid. However, there are many positives because thankfully vets are helping the wildlife to heal.

In 2018 the wildfires season burned 8.7 million acres of land. Wildfires are the biggest and widest spread natural disasters in the world. Wildfires can spread in seconds. The conditions can make the fire spread faster. Wind, Droughts and extreme heat can make the fire bigger and more dangerous.

Wildfires are extremely dangerous and harmful. Firefighters have to put there life on the line to save people that are in the fire.

why hygiene is important

Why Hygiene is Important One of the benefits of personal hygiene is better health. Your health plays a big role in your life. If you want a longer healthier life to have good hygiene and good health. It is very important to have good hygiene. Personal hygiene is washing your body, hands and head clean. This is very important because you will smell nice and you will be healthier. This prevents germs and viruses already. This is how you care for your body. If people don’t have good hygiene that is very bad. You can minimize the risk of infections and it will improve your overall health. When people don’t have good hygiene they can lead greasy skin, body oda and missing teeth. They can also lead to more serious thing like if you don’t wash your hands you can easily put lots of germs in your mouth. Keeping your body clean prevents illness, helps infections and viruses. This helps your overall health. But why do we do this? When you wake up have a shower and brush your teeth and put on clean clothes. All of these that I have said is very good habits and this is our morning routine. In conclusion, hygiene is very important because it helps with our overall health. By Troy

Trench warfare

Trench warfare is lines of trenches that are into the ground, Followed by lots of guns shooting. Trench warfare took place from 1914 to 1918. This was full-on. Their trenches were only about 10 metres apart. The trenches are like a shield. Trench warfare was used a lot in World War One. In World War One, an army of millions of troops faced each other in lines of man-made trenches. The countries that were included in this were Germany, Switzerland and France. Communication was key everyday fresh food, troops mail and thousands of medical kits all delivered through the trenches. This was their way of communication. Many countries all had different formatting and ideas. Lots of countries had the first line of trenches the strongest. They had machine guns which went consistently and were caged by barbed wire for any attack. The artillery was positioned just behind the front line. In front of the front line, there were three to four parallel lines with lots of men defending. As World War one increased all the defences became stronger, especially Germans. They used big blocks of concrete to protect them from artillery, behind these were dug out trenches to shoot from there. It was way out of the enemies artillery reach. In World War Two there was not much use of trenches. Mostly air forces. To hind from these, people dug deep holes or went into caves. People dug trenches for protection as they shot. As a result, This was a great way of protection.

Plastic in the Ocean

Thirteen million tons of plastic goes into the ocean every year. That is a
massive truckload of trash every minute. Humans are taking over and ruining
our marine life. We have to remember that the sea animals were there first.
Most of the reasons why marine life is dying are because of plastic. When a
rubbish bin overflows, not many people really know where it goes.

Plastic is made of very toxic chemicals. Twenty-nine per cent of the
ocean is now made up of plastic. That is two hundred and sixty-nine
thousand tons are now in the ocean. There are millions of landfills in
the world. Buried beneath each one of them, toxic chemicals from
plastics drain out and seep into the ground, making ground groundwater,
flowing downstream into lakes and rivers which they need to sea. Do you
really want to be swimming in that?

When a rubbish bin overflows or some rubbish from the landfill blows away
eighty per cent of the rubbish goes into the ocean. This is because
plastic is very light weighted. Winds, rain can blow rubbish into storm
drains which can travel through sewer pipes and waterways finally go into
the ocean. The fish will think it is food but really it's not. Sadly they eat it.
The plastic makes them full but really they're hungry and they starve to
death or drown.

A grey whale died after stranding near Seattle in 2010 with more than
20 plastic bags, a golf ball, and other rubbish in its stomach. A seal pup
found dead on the Scottish island of Skye, its intestines had just a small
piece of plastic which killed the seal. This shows you how harmful plastic
really is. This is what we are causing. Were ruining their lives.
Plastic in our oceans affects creatures large and small. From seabirds,
whales, and dolphins, to tiny seahorses.

We can help by every time we go to the beach to put five pieces of
rubbish in the bin. Never litter and tell people if they drop some rubbish
and leave it, tell them to pick it up, Because that bit of rubbish could kill a
marine animal.

The resources you need to live in Antarctic

Antarctica once known Gondwana is the coldest
and driest place on earth. It hasn't rained
there for nearly two million years. In Antarctica,
no one technically lives there unlike we do in
the rest of the world.

Firstly most people go to Antarctica to live and
work on scientific research stations. People
don't realise they can't just go there for a
holiday or build a house. You need to know
to go there. There is a training camp called
Happy camper school. They teach you how to
build a snow shelter and what to do if you are
lost, how to keep hydrated and survive in
extreme weather conditions.

Secondly, if you are going to Antarctica
you need to be kitted out with lots of warm
clothes including gloves, socks, snow boots,
skins long sleeves and long legs, pants then
waterproof warm pants over top, a long sleeve
warm top and then over the top a big thick
raincoat, also wear a beanie and some
goggles.

Thirdly you need to have a good home.
It needs to be a bright colour so people
can see it. Because if it was white you
could not see it because it will blend in
with the snow. Most houses and labs now
have stilts. This is so the snow can go under and the wind can blow
under too instead of blowing over. In your house,
you need a gym, a medical unit, a sauna, a kitchen and lots of things
like that. Also, you need to have lots of food because
nothing edible grows there. Most stations have a greenhouse to maintain
a good source of fresh vegetables outside.

In conclusion, it is very hard to live and go through the rough cold conditions. By Troy

poems

Today we had to make a poem that rhymes.

As she walks down the road.
She encounters a giant toad.

The toad mumbles.
The little girl fumbles.

The Toad has an appetite.
He begins to bite.
